  • The Campaign for the Farmed Environment - of which FWAG is a partner organisation - was launched on 5 November.  The campaign is an initiative which aims to retain the environmental benefits formerly provided by set-aside in three key areas - resource protection, farmland birds and farm wildlife.  To learn more about the Campaign visit their dedicated website or our news page.
  • The seven finalists of the FWAG Silver Lapwing Award - sponsored by Waitrose and Coombe Farm - were announced at a champagne reception at the Game Fair on 24 July.  To learn about the finalists for 2010 visit our news page.
  • On the back of our extensive work in renewables and climate change FWAG was delighted to be invited to formally join the Farming Futures partnership earlier this year.  Looking for information on renewable energy, nutrient management, carbon footprinting or precision farming? Visit the website for free, information, news and views on climate change and sustainability: http://www.farmingfutures.org.uk/
  • The new Secretary of State for Defra, Rt Hon Caroline Spelman MP, visited the Cereals Event near Royston and met with the key partners for the Campaign for the Farmed Environment (CFE). She met with Jim Egan, FWAG's Technical Director and Chairman of the Delivery Group for CFE, on the FWAG stand to discuss the approach taken and the lessons learned to date.
  • With judging for the 2010 FWAG Silver Lapwing Award underway, here's another opportunity to celebrate the good work that farmers do. The BBC are really keen that as many food producers and farmers as possible are aware of Food and Farming Awards. The categories likely to be of relevance are: Farmer of the Year, Food Producer of the Year and Drinks Producer of the Year.
It's really easy to enter. You simply go to the website www.bbc.co.uk/foodawards to nominate yourself or someone else.
The wider publicity that these awards attract is a really good opportunity for every farmer to get recognition for the work they do - whether big or small and in every field of farming/food production
