FWAG)is launching its Resource Efficiency Clubs this month and farmers are invited to come along to the introductory meetings to hear how they can save on input costs, help the environment and increase their profit margins.
The resource efficiency clubs will focus on topics such as energy efficiency, nutrient and soil management and water use optimization. Events held for the clubs will include practical on-farm demonstration days, technical field days, site visits and participative workshops.
The technical focus and content of the events will be determined by the club farmer members. You choose - what do you need help with? How do you want to tackle the issues that need to be solved on your farm?
Farmers will also be able to obtain nutrient analysis of their slurry and their soil in order to ensure that they are using fertilizer and manures to best effect and to help them comply with the new NVZ regulations. FWAG's advisory team, with over fifty years of on-farm advisory experience will be on hand to interpret results and to translate them into meaningful guidance for implementation on the farm.
The Resource Efficiency Clubs will be established initially in two locations:
Karen Stanley, Farm Conservation Adviser with FWAG commented: ‘These clubs are an excellent way for farmers to access guidance and training on the topics that they want to know more about. Be it saving money on fertilizer, rain water harvesting or renewable energy solutions, we can set up the training that the members of the club are seeking. All the training will be hands on as we recognize that people learn most effectively when they can see, do and discuss answers, ideas and solutions.'
These clubs are funded by Funded by Landskills as part of the Rural Development Programme for England with additional support being provided by Yorkshire Water Services Ltd. They are open to all farmers in the Yorkshire region.
The first introductory meeting takes place at The Millstones, Skipton Road, Felliscliffe, Harrogate on Tuesday 27th January and the second meeting will be at the Wagon and Horses, Langsett, near Stocksbridge on Thursday 5th February. Both meetings start at 7.00 pm and free light refreshments are provided.
